Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4
Biological Target
Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 Description
Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 is a multi-functional serine exopeptidase existing as a transmembrane glycoprotein on cell surfaces and as a soluble enzyme in plasma and other bodily fluids. It is widely expressed on endothelial cells, lymphocytes, and epithelial cells of various organs. Its primary physiological role involves cleaving dipeptides from the N-terminus of peptide hormones, most notably inactivating incretin hormones like glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), thereby regulating glucose homeostasis.
