Biological Target
Beta-1 Adrenergic Receptor Description
The Beta-1 Adrenergic Receptor is a G-protein coupled receptor predominantly expressed in cardiac muscle cells, but also found in renal juxtaglomerular cells and adipose tissue. It binds to endogenous catecholamines, primarily norepinephrine and epinephrine, leading to the activation of adenylyl cyclase and increased intracellular cyclic AMP levels. This signaling pathway primarily mediates an increase in heart rate, myocardial contractility, and renin release, playing a crucial role in regulating cardiovascular and renal function.
