Angiotensin II type 1 receptor Description

The Angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily located on the cell membranes of vascular smooth muscle, cardiac myocytes, renal tubular cells, and adrenal cortex cells. Upon binding its endogenous ligand, angiotensin II, AT1R mediates various physiological effects including vasoconstriction, aldosterone release, sodium and water retention, and cardiac remodeling. These actions collectively contribute to the regulation of blood pressure, fluid homeostasis, and electrolyte balance within the cardiovascular and renal systems.
