Angiotensin II Type 1 Receptor Description

The Angiotensin II Type 1 Receptor (AT1R) is a G protein-coupled receptor located on the cell surface of various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle, kidney, heart, and adrenal glands. It plays a critical role in mediating the diverse physiological effects of angiotensin II, the primary active hormone of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Activation of AT1R by angiotensin II leads to vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, sodium reabsorption, cardiac hypertrophy, and cell proliferation, thereby regulating blood pressure, fluid balance, and cardiovascular remodeling.
