5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A Description

The 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A (5-HT2A) is a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) predominantly expressed in cortical neurons within the central nervous system. Upon binding its endogenous ligand, serotonin, this receptor activates intracellular signaling pathways primarily via Gq/11 proteins. Activation of 5-HT2A receptors modulates neuronal excitability, synaptic plasticity, and contributes to the regulation of mood, cognition, and perception.
