N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor
Ionotropic Glutamate Receptor — Gene: GRIN1, GRIN2A
Target Code:
Q05586
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor Description
The N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor is a ligand-gated ion channel found in the postsynaptic membrane of neurons throughout the central nervous system. This receptor is a heterotetrameric complex typically composed of GluN1, GluN2 (A, B, C, or D), and sometimes GluN3 subunits, forming a channel permeable to calcium, sodium, and potassium ions. Its activation by glutamate and co-agonist glycine (or D-serine) is critical for synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory processes.
