Plasminogen Description

Plasminogen is a glycoprotein zymogen, primarily synthesized in the liver and circulating abundantly in human plasma. It consists of multiple Kringle domains and a serine protease domain, existing in an inactive conformation. Upon activation by plasminogen activators, it is proteolytically cleaved into the active enzyme plasmin, which is crucial for the degradation of fibrin clots, thereby regulating fibrinolysis and contributing to tissue remodeling.
